Anthropic opened a research preview of Claude Duet on Wednesday, Oct 21, 2026. Duet is a separate app where Claude works as a proactive agent: it sends you a morning brief, handles tasks in the background, and asks before it acts for you. For now it is waitlist-only, US-only, and limited to Claude Pro and Max subscribers. That puts Anthropic in the same race as SpaceXAI’s Grok Bot (beta since August 2026) and Meta’s Muse (launched September 2026), which we compared in Grok Bot vs Muse.
Quick verdict: Claude Duet suits professionals and small business owners who already pay for Claude and live in Gmail, Slack, Stripe or QuickBooks. Grok Bot is for power users who want a team of specialized Bots on a shared cloud computer, plus desktop apps. Muse is the easiest one for consumers: it has a free tier, runs inside WhatsApp, and Meta says glasses support is coming. If you can’t get a Duet invite yet, the other two are available today.
What a proactive AI agent actually is
A regular chatbot waits for you to type something, answers, and stops. A proactive agent keeps going after you close the app. All three products here give the AI its own computer in the cloud, with a browser and access to the apps you connect, so it can check your inbox, draft replies, fill in forms and come back to you when something needs a decision. Anthropic sums up Duet as an agent that “comes to you with what needs your attention, completes tasks you ask of it, keeps working even when you step away, and checks with you before it acts on your behalf.”

The part that matters most is approvals. An agent that can send email, pay invoices or sign documents is useful only if it won’t do those things on its own. All three put a human approval step in front of risky actions. They differ in what counts as risky and how purchases work. If you’re new to the category, our explainer on how AI agents work covers the basics.
Claude Duet at a glance
According to Anthropic’s announcement and its help center guide, Duet is a standalone app for iOS and Android that also works on claude.ai. It runs on Claude Opus 5.5, and you can’t pick a different model. It brings over the memory, skills and connected apps from your existing Claude account, so setup is light if you already use Claude. Anthropic says it built Duet “for professionals and small business owners with more on their plates than they can track.”

Day to day, it works like this:
- Morning brief. Each morning it reviews your email, calendar and connected apps, picks out what needs you, and can start drafting replies for you to review.
- Check-ins. It checks your connected accounts every few hours, not nonstop. Anthropic says checking constantly would burn through plan limits much faster. This also means something urgent can land between checks.
- Tasks. You message it by typing or voice in one ongoing thread. It figures out which apps to use, and bigger jobs (research briefs, financial models, slide decks, dashboards) come back as files in a Make tab. A Tasks tab tracks work in progress, and only you can mark a task complete.
- Connectors. It can use the 6,000-plus Claude Marketplace connectors (Gmail, Slack, Stripe, QuickBooks, HubSpot, Docusign and more). Sites without a connector go through its cloud browser. Microsoft 365 isn’t in Duet yet.
- Purchases. It can buy things through Link (Stripe’s wallet) and Shop Pay. Each purchase uses a one-time card, and Duet is designed to ask before every purchase.
Anthropic is upfront about the limits: you can’t watch or take over Duet’s browser, it can’t see local files, and it doesn’t call or text other people. It “might misread a thread or miscalibrate what’s urgent,” and personal errands such as booking tickets “aren’t quite as strong.” For Anthropic’s other recent releases, see our look at Claude Motion.
How Claude Duet compares with Grok Bot and Muse
The table below uses only details we could tie to an official page. Duet facts come from Anthropic (checked Oct 25, 2026). Grok Bot and Muse facts come from the vendor sources we cited in our Grok Bot vs Muse comparison (checked Oct 20, 2026). “See site” means we couldn’t confirm a matching detail.

| Feature | Claude Duet | Grok Bot | Muse |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maker | Anthropic | SpaceXAI (formerly xAI) | Meta |
| Launched | Oct 21, 2026 (research preview) | Aug 11, 2026 (beta) | Sep 8, 2026 |
| Access | Waitlist; US Pro and Max only | X Subscription Premium, Super, Ultra; eligible Cursor and SuperGrok plans | US and Canada adults; free tier available |
| Design | One agent, one main thread plus topic channels | Team of named Bots with roles | Single personal assistant |
| Cloud computer | Own virtual machine with browser | Shared persistent computer (browser, files, terminal) on Cursor’s cloud | Muse Secure VM with its own browser |
| Platforms | iOS, Android, claude.ai | macOS, Windows, Linux desktop; iOS and Android companions | iOS, Android, web, WhatsApp; glasses “coming soon” |
| Model | Claude Opus 5.5 (not selectable) | See site | See site |
| Approvals | Before send, pay, sign or delete | Allow/Deny plus model-based Auto Review | Before sensitive actions such as sending or spending |
| Agent purchases | Link and Shop Pay, one-time cards | Link wallet (per Stripe) | Link single-use virtual cards |
| Main focus | Work and small business | Power users, automation, routines | Consumers and small businesses |
The biggest difference is structure. Grok Bot gives you several Bots sharing one machine. Duet and Muse each give you a single assistant. Duet’s edge is context: it starts with the memory, skills and connectors you’ve built in Claude. Its weakness is availability. You can’t just download it and start.
Pricing and access
Prices below are as of Oct 25, 2026 and may change. Check the vendor pages before you subscribe.
| Agent | How you pay | Price (USD) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claude Duet | Included with Claude Pro or Max at no extra cost during the preview | Pro $20/month, or $17/month billed annually ($200 up front); Max from $100/month | claude.com/pricing |
| Grok Bot | Included with X Subscription tiers above Plus | Premium $30, Super $100, Ultra $200 per month; Plus ($8) does not include it | docs.x.ai, Cursor |
| Muse | Free tier with a weekly limit, or paid plans | Power $20/month (500M Muse tokens per week); Maximum $100/month (3B per week) | Meta help |
One catch with Duet: “no extra cost” doesn’t mean free usage. Duet shares your plan’s five-hour session and weekly limits with the rest of Claude, and its background work, including the morning brief and check-ins, counts against them. Big jobs like a financial model or a deck take more turns. So if you already hit your Pro limits in chat, Duet will make that happen sooner. To soften the blow, Anthropic gives each new Duet user one full limit reset, usable until Nov 30, 2026. The Free plan doesn’t include Duet.
Grok Bot isn’t sold on its own, and Muse’s paid subscriptions were in limited testing when we last checked. Our earlier comparison covers trial credits and weekly allowances.
Security and approvals
Here is what Anthropic says Duet does. It shows you exactly what it’s about to do and waits for approval before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything. If you can’t respond right away, it finishes the rest of the task and brings the approval back to you later. Some actions are blocked even if you approve them: trading securities, moving money between accounts and accessing someone else’s account. Its credential handling follows the Claude Managed Agents design, so it never directly sees your passwords or sign-in tokens. When a site asks for a password, you type it into a separate form on your device that sends it straight to the browser. Anthropic also says red teams and an outside firm penetration-tested Duet, and that it’s covered by Anthropic’s public bug bounty.

Some claims are harder to check from the outside. Anthropic describes a new classifier that blocks the “strictest tier” of information, such as card numbers and government IDs. It also cites prompt-injection defenses, but admits “no defense is perfect.” Anthropic posted a separate Duet safety, privacy and security article on Oct 23, 2026. Treat all of these as the vendor’s design goals, not independently tested results.
The other two take similar approaches with different weak spots. Grok Bot’s documentation offers Allow/Deny approvals and an optional Auto Review mode, but warns that separate Bots on one account aren’t a security boundary because they share one computer. Muse asks before it publishes, sends or spends, uses single-use Link cards, and routes outside actions through a separate security agent called Sentinel. For the money anecdotes and the fine print on each, see our Grok Bot vs Muse breakdown.
Who should pick which
Pick Claude Duet if you run your work through Claude already
You’re a consultant, broker, agency owner or small business operator on Claude Pro or Max in the US. Your day runs on email, calendar, invoices and CRM, and you want a brief each morning plus help with real deliverables like forecasts or decks. Join the waitlist now. Invites go out in waves, and Anthropic doesn’t promise a date. Don’t count on it for personal errands, and remember it will eat into the same usage limits as your chats.
Pick Grok Bot if you want a team of agents and desktop apps
You like setting up routines, splitting work across specialized Bots and running things from a Mac or PC. You may already pay for X Premium or a Cursor plan. Be careful with Auto Review and the shared-computer design, and keep risky approvals manual.
Pick Muse if you want the easiest start
You want to try a personal agent without paying, you use WhatsApp, and you care more about household and consumer tasks than spreadsheets. You need to be in the US or Canada. Meta says glasses support is coming, which could matter if you already wear Ray-Ban Meta glasses.
Confirmed vs speculation
Agent products are changing every few weeks, so here is where each claim stands as of Oct 25, 2026.
| Claim | Status | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Duet research preview for US Pro and Max via waitlist | Confirmed | Anthropic, Oct 21, 2026 |
| Duet included in Pro and Max at no extra cost during preview | Confirmed (preview only; future pricing not stated) | Claude Help Center, Oct 2026 |
| Duet coming to Team and Enterprise | Planned, no date | Claude Help Center, Oct 2026 |
| Duet 1Password sign-in and richer Shopify visual editor | “Coming soon” per Anthropic | Anthropic, Oct 21, 2026 |
| Duet merges into the main Claude app | Speculation; Anthropic says only that early feedback will shape how the two work together | Anthropic, Oct 21, 2026 |
| Muse support on Meta AI glasses | “Coming soon,” no date | Meta, Sep 8, 2026 |
| More than 10 million people in the US and Canada set up Muse agents | Company claim (Zuckerberg on earnings call) | CNBC, Oct 21, 2026 |
| OpenAI’s “dots” always-on agents are also competing | Confirmed launch; we haven’t reviewed features or pricing | CNBC, Oct 21, 2026 |
A note on OpenAI: CNBC reports that dots launched at OpenAI’s developer conference weeks after Muse. We’re leaving it out until we can check its details from primary sources.
Desk gear that actually helps
You don’t need new hardware for any of these agents. Two things help, though: good audio for voice messages and a second screen for reviewing drafts.

FAQ
What is Claude Duet?
Claude Duet is Anthropic’s proactive agent app, launched as a research preview on Oct 21, 2026. It runs on Claude Opus 5.5 in its own cloud computer, sends a morning brief, handles tasks in connected apps, and asks before consequential actions.
Is Claude Duet free?
No. There’s no extra charge during the preview, but you need a paid Claude Pro or Max plan, and Duet uses that plan’s usage limits. The Free plan doesn’t include it.
Who can join the Claude Duet waitlist?
Anyone can sign up on the Duet product page, but entry needs a US Claude Pro or Max account plus an invitation. Use the same email as your Claude account.
How is Duet different from the regular Claude app?
The Claude app mostly responds when you ask. Duet comes to you first and works in the background on its own virtual machine. It’s a separate app for now.
Claude Duet vs Grok Bot: which is better?
Duet fits work inside the business apps you’ve already connected to Claude. Grok Bot fits users who want several specialized Bots, desktop apps and routines, and it’s available now via X Subscription tiers.
Claude Duet vs Muse: which is better?
Muse is easier to start: free tier, WhatsApp, US and Canada. Duet is aimed at professional work (invoices, payroll prep, forecasts, decks). Anthropic says Duet is weaker at personal errands.
Will Claude Duet spend money without asking?
It isn’t supposed to. Anthropic says Duet asks before each purchase, Link asks you separately to approve the spend, and each purchase uses a one-time card. Still, check every approval screen.
When will Duet come to Team and Enterprise?
Anthropic says it plans to bring Duet to Team and Enterprise plans later but hasn’t given a date. As of Oct 25, 2026, it’s Pro and Max in the US only.
Bottom line
Claude Duet is the most work-focused of the three, with the clearest approval and off-limits rules. If you already pay for Claude Pro or Max in the US, the waitlist costs nothing – but morning briefs and check-ins share your chat usage limits.
If you want a proactive agent today, Muse is the easiest to try and Grok Bot is the most flexible. All three are early: connect only the apps you need, keep approvals on for money and messages, and read every draft before you approve. For the two you can use now, see our Grok Bot vs Muse comparison.
