Short answer: Most people should buy the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3). It’s the newest version of Meta’s camera-and-AI glasses and is rated for up to 9 hours of battery. For less money, look at the still-sold Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) or Meta’s own-brand Meta Adventurer. For sports, get the IP67-rated Oakley Meta Vanguard. For a heads-up display, the Meta Ray-Ban Display is the most capable, and the camera-free Even Realities G2 is the most discreet. For movies and gaming on a big virtual screen, get the XREAL 1S or VITURE Beast. For open-ear audio and an AI assistant with no camera, get the new Ray-Ban Meta Audio.
Black Friday is November 27, 2026, and Cyber Monday is November 30. Timing advice is near the end.
Which type of smart glasses do you need?
Camera + AI glasses
These look like regular Ray-Bans or Oakleys, with a camera, open-ear speakers, mics and Meta AI, but nothing in the lens. Buy them for hands-free photos, video, music, calls and asking about what you see.
Display / HUD glasses
A small display in your view for messages, directions, captions or teleprompting. Not for movies.
Video-viewing (“AR”/XR) glasses
XREAL and VITURE glasses plug into a phone, laptop or console over USB-C and show a large virtual screen. Great for flights and gaming, but not all-day glasses.
Audio-only glasses
Speakers, mics and an assistant, no camera.

The best smart glasses in 2026
1. Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3): best for most people
Gen 3 launched September 23, 2026 (list price from $449 at launch). It has the same 12MP camera and 3K video as Gen 2. What’s new: a slimmer frame, up to 9 hours of battery (one hour more than Gen 2), six mics that Meta says cut more than 90% of background noise, and a customizable action button. It comes in Wayfarer, Aviator and Zena.
- Pros: Newest hardware, best battery of any Ray-Ban Meta camera model, better calls, wide prescription support.
- Cons: Same camera as Gen 2. Costs more than Gen 2. The Aviator takes a narrower prescription range.
2. Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2): best value
Gen 2 (list price from $379 at launch in 2025) is still sold, and Meta added new Gen 2 optical colors in September. Meta rates it for up to 8 hours, plus up to 48 hours from the case. It has a 12MP camera with 3K video and charges to 50% in about 20 minutes.
- Pros: Nearly the same experience as Gen 3, a proven design and lots of styles. The most likely of these to get a holiday discount.
- Cons: One hour less battery than Gen 3. Five mics instead of six, and no customizable action button.

3. Meta Adventurer: best budget camera glasses
Meta launched its own-brand Meta Glasses line in June 2026 at $299. They have the same 12MP camera and 3K video as Gen 2, and Meta rates the line for more than 8 hours of use plus up to 40 more hours from the standard foldable charging case. At Connect 2026, Meta announced a $249 Adventurer (black frame, grey lenses) that comes with a plug-in case instead of the battery case. Meta says it goes on sale October 23. The card below is the standard $299 version.
- Pros: Cheapest Meta camera glasses, with the same core camera as Gen 2.
- Cons: The $249 version’s case can’t charge the glasses away from an outlet. Fewer styles than Ray-Ban.
4. Oakley Meta Vanguard: best for sports
The Vanguard (list price $499 at launch, October 2025) is a wraparound shield with a centered 12MP camera, a 122-degree lens, 3K video and an IP67 rating. Meta rates it for up to 9 hours (about 6 hours of continuous music), and the case adds up to 36 hours. Meta says its speakers are 6 dB louder than the Oakley Meta HSTN’s. It works with Garmin and Strava.
- Pros: The toughest Meta glasses, with fitness integrations, loud speakers and natural point-of-view framing.
- Cons: Sport look only. Meta’s own pages give conflicting answers on prescription support for Vanguard, so confirm with Oakley, Meta or an authorized optician before you buy if you need Rx lenses.

5. Ray-Ban Meta Audio: best camera-free
Meta’s first camera-free glasses start at $349 (Meta said they’d ship October 13). They weigh 43 grams and come in Clubmaster and Burbank. Meta rates them for up to 12 hours of AI assistant use, plus up to 48 hours from the case, and says they support a wide range of prescriptions.
- Pros: No camera means less friction at work and the gym. Longest battery rating in Meta’s lineup. Light.
- Cons: No photos or video, and no AI features that need to see what you’re looking at. Very new, so there are few reviews yet.
Also consider: Amazon Echo Frames (3rd Gen) for Alexa users
If you prefer Alexa to Meta AI, Amazon’s camera-free Echo Frames (3rd Gen, a 2023 release) are still sold, with prescription-ready, blue-light and polarized lens options. Amazon rates them for up to 6 hours of continuous media playback or talk time, or up to 14 hours of moderate use in a day.
- Pros: No camera, prescription-ready, built for Alexa and smart-home control.
- Cons: Older hardware, shorter rated battery, no visual AI.

6. Meta Ray-Ban Display + Neural Band: best heads-up display
It has a full-color display in the right lens and a camera, and you control it with the Meta Neural Band, an EMG wristband that reads small finger movements. It launched September 30, 2025 at $799 (list price, band included), at first only in person after a demo at select Best Buy, LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut and Ray-Ban stores. Meta added US online ordering in September 2026. Meta’s launch specs list a 600 x 600 display, about a 20-degree field of view and up to 5,000 nits. Battery is up to 6 hours of mixed use and 30 hours with the case. The IPX7 band lasts up to 18 hours and comes in three sizes.
- Pros: The most capable display glasses on sale: messages, navigation, captions and a camera viewfinder.
- Cons: Expensive, heavier than regular Ray-Ban Metas, display in one eye only, shorter battery life and a narrower prescription range.
Where to buy: We couldn’t find Meta Ray-Ban Display sold new on Amazon.com, so check the current price at Meta.com or a participating Best Buy, LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut or Ray-Ban store.
7. Even Realities G2: best discreet display
The G2 looks like normal glasses and has no camera by design. Its green micro-LED display shows in both eyes (640 x 350, 27.5-degree field of view, up to 1,200 nits) and handles teleprompting, translation, transcription and Even AI. Even Realities says it weighs 36 grams, is rated IP65, lasts up to 2 days, and the case holds about 7 full charges. Its support center lists custom prescription lenses from -12.00 to +8.00 sphere with up to 4.00 cylinder. Even Realities sells it direct (from $599 list price) rather than on Amazon, so check the current price at the official store.
- Pros: Very light, multi-day battery, a wide prescription range, no recording worries.
- Cons: Green text only, a smaller app ecosystem, and prescription orders can only be cancelled within 24 hours.
Where to buy: Check the current price at the official Even Realities store (EvenRealities.com) or its listed retail partners.
8. XREAL 1S: best for movies and gaming on a budget
Announced at CES 2026 (list price $449 at launch), the 1S has Sony micro-OLED displays at 1200p, up to 700 nits, 120Hz, a 52-degree field of view and Bose-tuned audio. It weighs 82 grams. XREAL’s X1 chip keeps the screen anchored in place (3DoF). It needs a device with USB-C video (DisplayPort) output. For Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, XREAL points you to its Neo hub (sold separately) or the console dock.
- Pros: Sharp picture for the price, a stable anchored screen, sold at Amazon and BestBuy.com.
- Cons: Tethered by a cable. No built-in diopter adjustment, so glasses wearers need prescription inserts.

VITURE’s flagship has a list price of $549 on VITURE’s own store. Specs: 1920 x 1200 per eye, up to 120Hz, a 58-degree field of view (VITURE says that’s a 174-inch screen at 4 meters), up to 1,250 nits, HARMAN audio, electrochromic dimming and 88 grams. It has no diopter dials but comes with a prescription lens frame; VITURE sells custom lenses for it separately.
- Pros: Widest field of view and strong brightness. Works with phones, PCs and the Switch 2.

Privacy and prescription considerations
Privacy
- Capture LED: Meta’s camera glasses light an LED while recording. Don’t cover it, and tell people when you’re filming.
- Venues: Gyms, locker rooms, hospitals, schools, courtrooms, concerts and many workplaces restrict recording devices. Ask first, or wear a camera-free pair.
- Data and AI: Voice and “look and ask” queries are processed in the cloud. Review the app’s privacy settings for voice recordings and AI history.
Prescription lenses
- Ray-Ban Meta: -12.00 to +6.00 total power per Meta’s help center. The Gen 3 Aviator takes -6.00 to +4.00.
- Meta Ray-Ban Display: Narrower range (reported as -4.00 to +4.00 at launch). Confirm on Meta.com.
- Even G2: -12.00 to +8.00 sphere, up to 4.00 cylinder, per Even Realities’ support center.
- XREAL: Prescription inserts through XREAL’s optical partners.
- VITURE: Built-in myopia dials on the Luma series (up to -6.0D on Luma, -4.0D on Luma Pro). The Beast uses an included lens frame.
Black Friday 2026: when to buy
For broader timing, see our early Black Friday 2026 tech deals guide.
- Watch Gen 2. Now that Gen 3 is out, Gen 2 is the most likely Ray-Ban Meta to drop in price. Check the current price before Thanksgiving week and again on Cyber Monday.
- Don’t expect deep cuts on new launches like Gen 3, Ray-Ban Meta Audio and the $249 Adventurer.
- Buy from authorized sellers: brand stores, Amazon.com (sold by Amazon or the official brand store), Best Buy, Sunglass Hut and LensCrafters. Gray-market listings can complicate warranties.
- Check return windows. Prescription orders are often final.
- Plan for charging. Tethered glasses drain your phone, and the $249 Adventurer’s case has no battery. A travel power bank helps with both.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the best smart glasses in 2026?
For most people, the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3). Get the Oakley Meta Vanguard for sports, Meta Ray-Ban Display for a HUD, XREAL 1S or VITURE Beast for video, and Ray-Ban Meta Audio for no camera.
Is Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 worth it over Gen 2?
Only if you want the extra hour of battery, better mics or the action button. The camera is the same, so a discounted Gen 2 is better value.
Can you buy Meta Ray-Ban Display online in the US?
Yes. Meta added US online ordering at Connect 2026. An in-store demo still helps with fit and Neural Band sizing.
Do smart glasses work with prescriptions?
Most do, but the ranges vary: Ray-Ban Meta covers -12.00 to +6.00 total power, Even G2 covers -12.00 to +8.00 sphere, and Display is narrower. XREAL uses inserts, and VITURE uses dials or an included frame.
Are camera smart glasses legal to wear?
Generally yes in US public spaces, but recording laws and venue rules vary. Respect “no recording” policies.
Do smart glasses replace my AI assistant?
No. They’re a hands-free front end for cloud AI. See our personal AI stack guide for running AI on your own hardware, or our Apple Vision Pro accessories roundup if you’d rather go the headset route.
