The fast answer: Claude Motion is a new beta feature from Anthropic that turns reports, charts, product walkthroughs and plain prompts into short animations that play like a video. It launched on Oct 8, 2026, it doesn’t use a video generation model (Claude writes code that animates your own text, charts, shapes and images), and you can export the result as an MP4. The catch: right now it’s only on Claude’s Team and Enterprise plans, not Free, Pro or Max (Anthropic, Claude Help Center, Claude pricing).
If you’ve ever burned an afternoon nudging keyframes so a bar chart grows on cue for an all-hands meeting, this one’s for you. Here’s what Claude Motion is, how it works, how to use it, and where it falls short.
What Is Claude Motion?
Claude Motion turns the stuff you already have (a report, a chart, a product walkthrough, or just a prompt) into a short animation that plays like a video. Anthropic launched it in beta on Oct 8, 2026, alongside another new feature, Claude Dashboards (Anthropic). The same day, Claude Docs, Slides and Design came out of beta for all plans, including Free (Reuters via Yahoo Finance).
Anthropic’s own examples tell you who it’s aimed at:
- Turning a quarterly report into a 30-second explainer for an all-hands meeting
- Adding motion to a chart in a board deck
- Building a product walkthrough for customer onboarding
Put simply, it’s an explainer-video maker for business content, built right into the Claude chat window (The Verge).
How Claude Motion Works
This is the part that sets it apart from the AI video hype. Claude Motion does not use a video generation model. You won’t get generated footage or AI-generated people. Instead, Claude writes code that animates your text, charts, shapes and images (Claude Help Center).
Because the animation is built from code instead of pixels, editing is precise. You can change any word, number or timing and everything else stays put. That matters if you’ve used AI video tools before, where a small tweak can regenerate the entire clip and wreck the parts you liked.
You can edit in two ways:
- In the editor, making changes directly
- By asking Claude in plain English, such as “Slow down the second scene” or “Change the Q3 number to 18%”
When you’re done, you export to MP4, and your animations are saved in the Artifacts tab. If the “Claude writes code for you” approach sounds familiar, it’s the same basic idea behind vibe coding: you describe the result and the AI handles the code.
Hand-off to other video tools
Motion isn’t meant to be the last stop in your workflow. You can open your animation in Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Higgsfield, invideo, Luma AI and Runway, with Canva and Captions listed as “coming soon.” Runway is a launch partner, and in its tool you can restyle the animation and add generated video, images and sound (Runway). So if you do want AI-generated footage, you can layer it on afterward.
How to Use Claude Motion (Step by Step)
Here’s the workflow, based on Anthropic’s help center guide (Claude Help Center):
- Confirm you have access. You need a Team or Enterprise plan. On Team, Motion is on by default. On Enterprise it’s off by default until an owner turns it on in Organization settings > Artifacts.
- Start a Motion project. Start from any chat, choose Output > Motion in the message box, or open the Artifacts tab and pick a Motion template.
- Write a clear brief. Anthropic suggests saying who will watch, where it’ll play and roughly how long it should be.
- Attach your material. Upload the report, data or images you want animated.
- Refine. Make changes in the editor or ask Claude for edits (“Slow down the second scene”). Changing one element leaves the rest alone.
- Export. Choose Export > MP4. Your animation also stays saved in the Artifacts tab.
- Share (optional). Animations are private by default. Use the Share button to share it. External or link sharing works only if your admin allows it.
Pro tips from early users
Tip threads on X (example) have settled on a simple routine: find a style reference, write a brief file with your colors, fonts and motion preferences, describe one moment, tweak it, then export. Start small and build from there instead of asking for the whole video in one go.
Who Claude Motion Is For
Since it’s only on Team and Enterprise for now, Motion is clearly aimed at work use. It fits best for:
- Finance and ops teams who need to turn quarterly numbers into something people will actually watch at an all-hands.
- Executives and strategy folks who want a chart in a board deck to land harder.
- Customer success and product teams making onboarding walkthroughs.
- Data analysts and creators who want their charts to move. Football-data analyst Spencer Mossman (@fc_mossman) used it to animate his own charts (X).
The launch got plenty of attention. Anthropic’s @claudeai launch post on Oct 8 racked up roughly 11 million impressions and 60,000 likes on X (@claudeai). Not everyone was happy, though: Pro users have been complaining that they’re still waiting for access (example).
If you’re building a broader set of AI tools for work, Motion fits alongside the agent-style workflows we cover in our guide to AI agents.
Claude Motion vs. Rivals
Claude Motion falls somewhere between a few existing categories. Here’s how it compares at a high level:
| Tool type | Examples | How it makes video | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claude Motion | Claude (Team/Enterprise) | Claude writes code that animates your text, charts, shapes and images, right inside a chatbot | Data explainers, animated charts, product walkthroughs with precise edits |
| AI video generators | Runway, Luma, Google Veo, OpenAI Sora | Generate pixels and footage | Realistic or stylized generated footage |
| Code-based animation | Remotion (open source) | React code rendered to video | Developers who want programmatic video |
| Template motion graphics | Canva, Adobe | Animated templates and design tools | Designers and marketers who want hands-on control |
The key point: Motion has more in common with code-based tools like Remotion than with Sora or Veo. You get precision and editability, not photoreal scenes. Some of those “rivals” are also partners, since you can send a Motion animation to Runway, Luma AI or Adobe to finish it.
Limits and Caveats
- It’s still in beta. Expect rough edges.
- Team and Enterprise only. It’s not on Free, Pro or Max (Claude pricing). Pro costs $20/month billed monthly ($17/month billed annually) but doesn’t include Motion.
- No realistic footage or people. It animates your content; it doesn’t generate video. For that, hand off to a partner like Runway.
- Usage limits apply. There’s no separate charge, but Motion counts toward your plan’s usage limits, and longer or more complex animations use more.
- Some integrations aren’t here yet. Canva and Captions hand-off are still “coming soon.”
- Admin controls. Enterprise owners have to turn it on and can limit it to certain groups with custom roles. External sharing depends on admin settings.
On pricing: the Team plan is for teams of 2 to 150 people (check Anthropic’s pricing page for the current price). Enterprise is $20 per seat per month plus usage billed at API rates, billed annually (Claude pricing).
Gear for Making Explainers
Motion runs in the cloud, so you don’t need a powerhouse machine (though if you’re curious about local AI hardware, see our personal AI stack guide). A couple of desk upgrades do make the editing and export routine smoother.

FAQ
Is Claude Motion free?
Not on the Free plan. Motion is only available in beta on Team and Enterprise plans. There’s no extra charge on those plans, but it counts toward your usage limits (Claude pricing).
Can I use Claude Motion with a Pro or Max subscription?
No, at least not yet. Motion isn’t included in Pro or Max, and Pro users on X have been vocal about waiting for access (example).
Does Claude Motion generate AI video or AI people?
No. There’s no video generation model involved. Claude writes code that animates your text, charts, shapes and images. If you want generated footage, images or sound, you can open the animation in Runway, a launch partner (Runway).
How do I export a Claude Motion animation?
Choose Export > MP4. Your animations are also saved in the Artifacts tab, and you can share them with the Share button if your admin allows it (Claude Help Center).
Why can’t I see Claude Motion on my Enterprise account?
On Enterprise, Motion is off by default. An owner has to enable it in Organization settings > Artifacts, and it may be limited to specific groups through custom roles.
